Overview
The Veterinarian (Small Animal & Exotics) is responsible for providing medical, surgical, and preventive healthcare services to companion animals such as dogs and cats, as well as exotic species including birds, reptiles, rabbits, and other small mammals. The role involves diagnosing illnesses, performing treatments and surgeries, advising pet owners, and ensuring high standards of animal welfare and clinical care.
Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Perform physical examinations on small animals and exotic pets.
- Diagnose diseases and medical conditions through clinical evaluation and diagnostic testing.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for sick or injured animals.
- Perform surgical procedures when required.
Exotic Animal Medicine
- Provide specialized care for exotic species including birds, reptiles, amphibians, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and other small mammals.
- Diagnose and treat conditions unique to exotic animals.
Preventive Medicine
- Conduct routine wellness exams and health screenings.
- Provide vaccination programs and parasite prevention plans.
- Offer nutritional counseling and preventive health advice to pet owners.
Client Communication
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care, diet, disease prevention, and treatment options.
- Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognoses clearly and compassionately.
- Provide guidance for post-treatment and post-surgical care.
Diagnostics & Records
- Interpret laboratory results, radiographs, ultrasounds, and other diagnostic imaging.
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
- Ensure compliance with veterinary medical regulations and clinic protocols.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with veterinary nurses, technicians, and clinic staff.
- Participate in clinic meetings and continuous professional development.
Requirements:
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM / BVSc or equivalent)
- Experienced practitioners preferred — new graduates welcome
- Team player, coachable, and adaptable (we run on shared standards)
