The Assistant Financial Controller supports the Financial Controller in managing all financial operations and reporting. This role involves handling daily accounting tasks, ensuring compliance, preparing accurate financial reports, and supporting budgeting and cost control activities. The position works closely with various departments to maintain accurate records, optimize costs, and ensure financial standards are met.
- Oversee daily accounting operations: Includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank & treasury functions, and general ledger activities.
- Ensure accurate financial records: All transactions must comply with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (FRS), International Standards, and Group Accounting Policies.
- Support month-end and year-end closing: Perform reconciliations and ensure timely closing of accounts.
- Assist in managing assets and working capital: Includes fixed assets, inventory, cash flow, and project costs.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting: Work with Financial Controller and Management Accounting Manager to prepare annual budgets and financial projections.
- Support variance analysis: Track actuals against budget to ensure cost control and highlight any major variances.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities: Collaborate with department heads to analyze materials, labour, and overhead costs and suggest ways to reduce spending.
- Implement cost control measures: Help design benchmarks and initiatives to optimize the company’s cost structure.
- Prepare cost performance reports: Deliver regular updates to management, highlighting concerns and recommending improvements.
- Ensure compliance: Stay updated on tax laws, financial regulations, and industry standards to maintain full compliance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting or finance experience
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (FRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Hands-on experience with month-end closing, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Good understanding of cost control, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Experience in a manufacturing or project-based environment is an added advantage
